Mould Makers then use use them to form a cavity in the sand, into which molten metal is poured to form a casting. Patternmaking is divided into two branches: wood patternmaking and metal patternmaking.

Powerline Technicians build and repair overhead and underground power lines, which are used to conduct electricity from generating plants to the customer. They erect and maintain poles and towers, as well as install and maintain street lighting systems.

Concrete is moulded to create many different shapes and forms, including slabs or panels, called precast concrete pieces, for building walls or floors. Often a Hoisting Engineer/Crane Operator will lower pieces into place, and the role of the Precast Concrete Erector is to guide this tradesperson, using hand signals, to align the panels and slabs into place.

Pressure systems welders use shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding and flux cored arc welding processes to weld metal plates, tubes, and other structures in boilers and other pressure systems. They cut pipes and tanks and assemble these pieces, and may have to repair defective welds in boilers and pressure systems.
