What does a Wooden Boat Rebuilder/Repairer (211W) do?

Wooden Boat Repairer/Rebuilders fabricate, repair, or modify wooden boats to specifications and drawings. This includes preparing sketches and layouts; creating designs; selecting materials such as woods and veneer; operating hand tools; making joints and performing fastening procedures; fabricating fastenings; and assembling, finishing, and surfacing boat components. Rebuilders/Repairers operate both computer-assisted design systems and wood cutting equipment.

What Preparation and Training Do You Need?

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent; math and science credits or OYAP an asset
  • While not mandatory, completion of 7,000-8,000 hour apprenticeship program, including on-the-job and in-school training, is recommended
