Unions by Sector

Unions provide organization and support in multiple ways to the trades. To apprentices and journeymen, they ensure comfortable and safe work environments, high standards of living job security and respect for time worked. For job seekers unions provide both hiring halls and training centres.




Carpenter's Union: The Carpenters' Union, Central Ontario Regional Council is composed of affiliated local unions that represent carpenters, carpenters' apprentices, drywallers, shinglers, metalmen, resilient floor workers, trim carpenters, caulkers, labourers, and other tradespeople in central Ontario. They bargain on behalf of its members and mandates wage and benefit minimums in accordance with its collective agreements


International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsworkers: BAC represents the most highly skilled trowel trades craftsworkers across the United States and Canada including bricklayers, stone and marble masons, cement masons, plasterers, tilesetters, terrazzo and mosaic workers and pointers/ cleaners/ caulkers


International Union of Painters and Allied Trades: IUPAT is a labour union representing over 140,000 members in the construction industry, including, Painters, Drywall Finishers, Glaziers, Floor Coverers and Sign & Display workers

  • Ontario Industrial & Finishing Skill Centre: a training and learning institution devoted to painter decorators and architectural glass and metal technicians across Ontario; located at 130 Toro Road, Toronto, Ontario

  • Interior Finishing Systems Training Centre: IFSTC offers apprenticeships in the fields of interior finishing: Drywall Finishing and Plastering Course and Drywall Acoustic Mechanic & Lathing Course; located at 60 Sharer Road, Woodbridge, Ontario


Ironworkers Toronto Local 721: A site provided for the education of members and the greater community on the benefits and opportunities associated with membership in the organization. Providing apprenticeship training in the Ironworker and Rodworker trades

United Association Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 46: Local 46 is home to Unionized Plumbers, Steamfitters and Welders in the Greater Toronto Area; The building, completed in 1993, currently houses the Local 46 administration, Business Agents, Dispatch and Senior Members lounge, as well as the Training Department, with a number of general and specific classrooms, Welding shop and the newly added Residential Training Facility. Located in Scarborough









Canadian Auto Workers: The CAW is the largest private sector union in Canada with over 250,000 members from coast to coast




Landscape Ontario: with more than 2,000 professional members, Landscape Ontario is the province's premier horticultural trades association. Their mission is to be the leader in representing, promoting and fostering a favourable climate for the advancement of the horticulture industry in Ontario; Toronto chapter offering chapter meetings, workshops and other resources
