This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) governs all aspects of how (“We”, “Us”), a project of the Halton Industry Education Council (Hereafter HIEC), collects, uses, maintains and discloses personal information from all users (“Users”, “You”, or “Your”) of this website. Values Your Privacy is committed to protecting the confidentiality of all information entrusted to it by Users. has prepared this Policy to inform Users about our policy and practices concerning the collection, use and disclosure of personal information.
Personal Information that collects, from time-to-time, may collect personally identifiable information (Personal Information) from Users. This includes name, address, phone numbers, resumes, email addresses, username & passwords that You provide, as well as information collected electronically about how You use our website (e.g. by tracking the number of unique pageviews received by the pages of the website) or via cookies.
“Cookies” are files or pieces of information that may be stored in Your computer’s hard drive when You visit Cookies are also used to remember that You may have already provided Personal Information to Us and as a result, they help speed up Your future activities when accessing our website. The cookies are persistent cookies and reside on Your internet browser until you remove them. Most internet browsers are initially set to accept cookies.
You may have created an unique ID and created a password in order to use the database areas of this website. You are requested not to divulge Your ID or password to anyone other than personnel and then only for the purpose of permitting them to provide service to You.
The website is simply a venue for employers/community agencies (on behalf of employers) and job seekers to provide and access information relating to possible employment. Users should understand that Employers may search the electronic database to contact prospective applicants; applicants may search the electronic database to contact prospective employers. Neither the HIEC nor MTCU participates in, controls, or screens the solicitation, response, hiring or placement of employees, and is not accountable for the appropriateness, dependability or reliability of the match or information provided by Users. 
How uses Personal Information will use all information collected from its Users to deliver the mandate of the program (Connecting Employers and Apprentices in the skilled trades across Ontario) and may:
  • provide Users with the service and information that has been requested or in support the program delivery mandate
  • provide and/or contact Users directly regarding the services offered and/or supported by and its trusted affiliates and community agencies
  • understand User preferences in order to enhance Users’ experience with
Enhancing Applicant & Employer Connection
Applicants and Employers may view their own data to ensure accuracy by logging into the website using their own unique USER-ID/password. Modifications/deletions to Employer or Applicant data may be performed by the applicant/employer using their own unique USER-ID/password, or by staff in the course of their duties or at the request of employers or applicants.
From time to time, Liaison staff may shortlist applicant resumes and forward them to employers for consideration and to enhance job matching.
Applicants who do not wish to have personal data available for employers to view should not post a personal profile/resume on our website.
Employers who do not want job information to be visible to applicants in the database should not post job information themselves, but instead should contact the Liaison in their area for assistance.
Employment Service (ES)/Community Agencies
Community Agencies may register and once approved by, may post apprenticeship/job vacancies on behalf of their employers.
ES/Community Agencies may view their own data to ensure accuracy by logging into the website using their own unique USER-ID/password. Modifications/deletions to ES/Community Agency data may be performed by the Agency using their own unique USER-ID/password, or by staff in the course of their duties or at the request of the Agency.
From time to time, Liaison staff may shortlist applicant resumes and forward them to an ES/Community Agency that has posted apprenticeship/job vacancies in order to enhance job matching.
ES/Community Agencies are not able to directly view applicant data within the apprenticesearch database.
What happens to the data?
Employer, Applicant and Community Agency data becomes dormant in the database within 90 days from date of registration unless the employer, applicant or community agency is regularly accessing the site, using their unique password and identifier. Dormant registrations can be re-activated by apprenticesearch Liaison staff at the request of the user.
Please note that this Policy does not cover aggregated data from which the identity of an individual cannot be determined. Statistical reports on the achievement of performance targets sent to the funder (Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities) contain aggregate data, and do not identify data unique to an individual unless the applicant, community agency or employer has provided express consent (e.g. a testimonial or success story). retains the right to use aggregated data in any way that it determines appropriate.
Employment Services – Employment Ontario Service Coordination
During the applicant registration process, Applicants are given a voluntary choice in regard to direct referral by staff to Employment Services/ Community Agencies in their local communities. If they so wish, the applicant can click Yes, and instruct the Liaison staff to forward their contact information directly to an Employment Service agency that can determine their eligibility for a range of potentially available employment services. Applicants who decide not to take advantage of the offer of service coordination may opt out by clicking No.
Third Party Websites and Links has no control over the content of third party websites that may be identified on the website, or, if applicable, accessed through hyperlinks.
Maintenance and Security of Personal Information retains Personal Information about Users as long as it believes it is necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected and in accordance with applicable law. Currently, holds the Personal Information in the City of Burlington, Ontario with a secure backup of the data in Hamilton, Ontario. Personal Information about Users that is maintained on our systems is protected using industry standard security measures. However, we cannot guarantee that the information submitted to, maintained on, or transmitted from our systems will be completely secure and transmission of information over the internet is susceptible to possible loss, misrouting, interception and misuse.
Access to Personal Information provides individuals with access to Personal Information held about them.
If an individual believes that his or her Personal Information on file is not correct, he or she may modify or update the information using their unique USERID/password, or by requesting that modifications be made by contacting the Liaison staff in their area. An individual may request that delete an individual’s Personal Information from records and system. However due to technical constraints and the fact that backs up its systems, Personal Information may continue to reside in the system after deletion. Individuals, therefore, should not expect that their Personal Information would be completely removed from the systems in response to an accepted request for deletion. reserves the right to decline access to Personal Information where the information requested:
a)      would disclose the Personal Information of another individual or of a deceased individual;
b)      would disclose business confidential information that may harm or the competitive position of a third party;
c)      is subject to solicitor-client litigation privilege;
d)     could reasonably result in:
i)                    Serious harm to the treatment or recovery of the individual concerned;
ii)                  Serious emotional harm to the individual or another individual; or
iii)                Serious bodily harm to another individual;
e)      May harm or interfere with law enforcement activities and other investigative or regulatory functions of a body authorized by statute to perform such functions;
f)       Is not readily retrievable and the burden or cost of providing would be disproportionate to the nature or value of the information; or
g)      Does not exist, is not held, or cannot be found by
Where information will not or cannot be disclosed, the individual making the request will be provided with the reasons for non-disclosure. Where information will be disclosed, will endeavour to provide the information in question within a reasonable time and no later than thirty (30) days following the request. will not respond to repetitious or vexatious requests for access. In determining whether a request is repetitious or vexatious will consider such factors as the frequency with which information is updated, the purpose for which information is used, and the nature of the information.
To guard against fraudulent requests for access, will require sufficient information to allow it to confirm the identity of the person making the request before granting access or making modifications.
Amendment of practices and this Policy
This statement is in effect and was last revised as of November 23, 2010. will from time to time review and revise its privacy practices and this Policy.
